MLBC Discussion #2 - RON (Part 1)

By popular demand it is time to discuss Ron.  When Ron is first introduced, in the hotel with Tee, how did you view him?  Did your view of Ron change as the time progressed?  Do you think Ron is too young for Tee?  Was Tee wrong for going out with Ron and playing the Gerald card when things got too HOT?

If this book were made into a Lifetime movie...who should play Ron?  Any suggestions?

Let's talk.  Leave a comment.  What do you think about Ron?

RON!!

OK, so waking up hung-over and finding a man in your bed can be shocking. However, when that man is RON, I say YEAH!!! While Tee was freaking out, he was so calm and sexy. He is didn’t push it…just left because he could see how nervous she was. Over time my view of Ron only got BETTER!! I felt he is sweet trying to put her at ease at Thanksgiving dinner…side note Amber should never cook LOL. Then of course there are no words to express how compassionate and giving he was when her car broke down and he “Pimped” her ride for FREE…after she shot him down on their date. Ah…Ron!!! Which Tee was pass wrong for since whatever she had with Gerald was not a real relationship. I know she was uncomfortable with his age and the Baby Son-In-Law connection, but Gerald…please. Ron was a mature and need I say HOT man, so the age difference didn’t concern me at all. He has the patience of Job but he was so sure of his feelings for her and he endured all waiting for her to come around. I loved them together once Tee came to her senses.

I don’t have the book with me, but when I think of Ron and a movie I am thinking Morris Chestnut walking around that corner into the club in the Best Man!! Hey RON!!

Okay today I was instructed to discuss Ron. I know that when I was in the process of rereading this novel for the book club, I was overly anxious to get to more RON!!! So to discuss Ron it is only natural that we start from the beginning--the Hotel Room!

From the start Ron has been the ultimate gentleman. If there is a thing called the "Perfect Man" that is Ron. What woman would NOT be attracted to a sexy, confident, strong, compassionate, sexy, supportive, patient, attentive, sexy, humble man!! Aaaahhhhh....

Okay, although he awakens with the most exquisite, mind altering experience on his mind, Tee is freaked out because of her "juvenile behavior." But I loved how he (comfortable in his own skin :-0) reassures her and quietly walks away. I think most brothers would have been devasted or trippin for being dismissed in such a fashion...but not our RON.

Then they meet again on Thanksgiving Day w/the newlyweds. Ron, always exuding confidence, just comes on the scene and tries not to make Tee uncomfortable (she does that for herself becomes Ron moves her in an almost "high-schooler" way that unnerves her). I love when he tries to start over by saying "Hi the names Ron." :-)

The ultimate "superhero" thing was when he PIMPed Tee's ride with no strings attached. I believe Ron is the man Tee needed in her life but she had to get her life together for herself before she could appreciate the fact that she deserved to be loved, be the center of a man's attention (Gerald--Loser), and have her needs met. I loved how Ron (and her girlfriend) encouraged her to persue her organization entrepeneuralship (is that a word?). He wouldn't let her get sidetracked and offered to help if and when she needed but at the same time giving her the space and time to do it for herself.

I loved when Ron candidly talked discussed his feelings for her (in her kitchen) not beating around the bush about what he wants with her despite her hang-up about age...still don't think he was no more than 6-8yrs younger!? He brought out the fun and comfortable side of Tee. Especially since she has been a "grownup" since she was 19yrs old. She needed Ron to remind her that she is a beautiful woman!

Goshdarnitdoohickey! Ron was "greatness"

okay since i missed the part about what actor could play Ron in a lifetime movie. I say LAMMAN RUCKER (my Chase from Half&Half and Troy from Why Did I Get Married). Lamman has such a serene yet confident presence and I can easily see him as MY RON!

My dear Ron. When we first meet in the hotel room I am not sure what to think. Is he a smooth operator? Who is this guy that the respectable Tee has had a fling with? I want to believe he is just a nice guy, but I am not sure. However, I have to agree that his exit from the room with no guilt is classic.

I am very interested in what is happening in Ron's life from the time they go out on the date/outing to the time her car breaks down. How long were they apart? What was he doing then? How is he that FINE and not seeing anyone? I am just curious.

My favorite RON line is surely, "Hi my name is RON." Totally letting her off the hook. A true gentleman. I like his style.

As for his kindness with the car...WOW. I was floored, but I kind of expected it. I thought it was great how Tee hoped for Ron to actually pick her up and tow her car. He is the boss baby...he sends his people!

I would love to see how the relationship progresses in a future book.

I was thinking Morris too...and I had that Best Man image in my head as well. What a great RON.
