MLBC Discussion #3

The epigraph quotes at the beginning of each chapter are just wonderful. I enjoyed reading the chapter searching for their placement within the text.  The are absolutely hilarious at times.

Out of the following epigraph quotes: 1) Which one did you like the most? 2) Which one best describes your life now?  3) Which one best describes your life 5 years ago?  If you so choose...please elaborate.

If you didn't get to read the book, you can join in on this one.  Which quote do you feel best describes your life now? and then?

Options
  1. "...all you can do is mop up the aftermath, dump it in a giant personal hazmat container and move on." (Chapter 1)
  2. "Ignorance is not bliss" (Chapter 4)
  3. "...my turn to get up off my knees and strut my stuff." (Chapter 10)
  4. "Some things are worth forgetting" (Chapter 12)
  5. "Somebody scream!" (Chapter 15)
  6. "...the only thing standing in my way is me..." (Chapter 16)

Epigraph #1 I liked most because it set the tone of the book and gave you and understanding of what Tee was dealing with and all the things going on in her life.

Which one best describes my life now? Chapter 16 epigraph "...the only thing standing in my way is me..." Simply because I am my worst critic and if I allow my life to be driven by the fear of the unknown I will never venture out to achieve something greater. I can always be a better person, mother, wife, professional, sister and friend but am I will to take the steps, endure the rejection to persevere! YES!!!!!

Me 5 years ago? "SOMEBODY SCREAM!" Chaper 15 epigraph. So many stressors in my life five years ago from toiling with decision to leave a career I had known for 14yrs to stressors of marriage and loss of strong family relationships and friends. I had to continue reciting the known verse that God won't give you more than you can handle--even though I think he forgot to recheck on me a few times (maybe so many people had issues and things were backlogged...LOL) but He saw me through it all and I did grow spiritually and mentally from the experiences.

WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU...speak sistahs!

1 – The epigraph that I liked the most was Chapter 14 –“There’s no room for the right thing if you don’t let go of the wrong one.” This was the cookie chapter for Tee. A time to make changes…

2 – Chapter 17 – “Sometimes life handles itself” best describes my life right now. This may come as a surprise to some, but I have control issues. LOL While I am not cured, I have been “going with the flow” more. I’ve decided that everything does not need my “great” input and guidance.

3 – Five years ago…”…the only thing standing in my way is me…” That was me then. I was stuck in a place where I could not appreciate all the great things that God had blessed me with. It was hard to take off the “blinders” and see that my life was GREATNESS!!! It has only gotten better every since.

1. I like this one the most - Chapter 1 (hazmat container). This epigraph just sets the tone of the entire novel for me. I am excited to learn more about what the statement means. It pushes me to read...and keep reading.
2. My life now - Chapter 15 (Somebody scream!) but in a good way. When I read this epigraph I think of a good scream. I feel so blessed and when God does something great for me or my family I just want to scream. He is amazing and that is my focus..HIM. When He blesses like only He can...screaming is allowed...hopefully followed by a THANK YOU GOD!
3. My life five years ago - Chapter 10 (strut my stuff) would best describe it. I had not gone through the blessing of being pregnant and giving birth yet, so I was still a free spirit and a tad bit selfish. (Funny how being a mother can alter that selfish phase.) I had lots of time on my hands, and I was always on the go. I felt nothing could get in my way. I was fearless. Then I became a mom and everything made me nervous. Now I am settling into my new role and perhaps understanding that struting your stuff is ok if you get approval (on your knees) and give credit where credit is due.
